Affirmations
Let’s talk about affirmations, what they are, suggestions on how to use them and work them into your daily practice for optimal results.
An affirmation is a statement that you repeat to yourself aka affirm to yourself ideally on a positive note so that it integrates into your subconscious mind (which is where our beliefs are stored- it’s the “gatekeeper”). By using affirmations, you can shift your attention and focus, redirect your energy and your thoughts and if done effectively can help with belief systems. You are ultimately retraining the subconscious mind by reframing your thoughts, which will eventually change your beliefs, and you begin to feel better. That alone can shift a lot. Naturally, you’ll benefit from all the changes it creates in your reality. Now, to start with, the affirmations need to be believable to you even if you don’t believe them just yet but really want too. What I mean by this is if your affirmation is “I am a millionaire and thriving” but you don’t believe that you are thriving or maybe you don’t believe that it’s possible to be a millionaire then I’d advise you to change it to a believable version that you are open to. For instance, “I AM OPEN TO THRIVING, I AM OPEN TO THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING A MILLIONAIRE, I’D REALLY LOVE THAT”. If you are wanting to create an affirmation about enhancing work opportunities and/or clients and say “I’m super busy now with work and have a full clientele” but you don’t feel like that will happen for you then I’d suggest tweaking it to something like “I AM OPEN TO NEW WAYS OF BEING SERVICE THAT I LOVE AND AM PAID GENEROUSLY FOR” or “I AM OPEN TO NEW INSPIRATION OF HOW BEST TO BE OF SERVICE AND AM SO GRATEFUL FOR ALL CLIENTS I AM NOW ABLE TO SERVE”. There are many ways to tweak affirmations, but it must be believable. So, if you hear an affirmation and want that to be true for you but just don’t believable it- CHANGE IT- ALTER IT- Affirmations are not set in stone or a one size fits all, so make it your own and make it your prayer and ritual to be that.
ALSO, maybe dig a little deeper and work with WHY you don’t believe it or feel it’s possible. Sometimes we do KNOW it’s possible but no matter what we do it feels like nothing is happening. Both of these can be indicators of hidden misbeliefs or outdated beliefs that are stored in the subconscious. This is where I’d recommend scheduling a session if you aren’t already booked in with me or currently working with me. We can get to the root.
I have found affirmations to work best when using them in a theta state- that’s the deeply relaxed brain wave state, this is when you’ve bypassed the critical mind and are at a subconscious level. Remember, the subconscious is the gatekeeper to all beliefs, thoughts, and experiences, so if you believe it to be possible and accept it as true for you then it will integrate deeper into the subconscious the more you do it. This will also bring any resistance and limiting beliefs to the surface for you to work with. Whereas if you are repeating it at the conscious level, it’s still good, get your mind in a positive direction. However, you’d have to repeat thousands and thousands of times if not more whereas at the subconscious it’ll integrate quicker.
In addition to that, just like any manifestation (which is an over spiritualized and overcomplicated concept and word- but we will save that for another post) affirmations also work best when you can feel how you’ll feel when you have actualized it. So, if you are wanting to complete your degree and have been overburdened etc. etc. feel into how you will feel when you do complete it. What will that degree feel like in your hands, what will the reaction on your face be when you receive it, what will it feel like to take your last exam or hand in that final thesis? What about seeing the degree on the wall or the new opportunities you will create from it? What expression will be on your face? Really get into and feel it … THIS is also a theta state; you will go into one by really feeling it and it’ll feel so damn good. Recite your affirmations in that space.
Two other ways that I really like to use affirmations are in morning pages, which is an exercise from Julia Cameron’s books ‘The Artists Way’ and I highly recommend reading this. The morning pages are a morning ritual where you basically brain dump onto at least 3 pages every morning, even if you have nothing to say write that out and eventually things will start coming out. It’s good to get it all out, empty the vessel and then begin fresh. Now, this doesn’t have to be negative, it’s just getting it all out on paper, you may receive great ideas and inspiration, you may get the muck out of the way and receive more clarity in the day. The point of it is to not write perfectly like you are being audited or someone’s going to read it. It’s actually your sacred space and isn’t suggested to share.
I like using affirmation and sometimes evening spending all 3 of my morning pages writing them out 3-5x’s per affirmation. It’s whatever I need that day. There is power in writing things down and there is power in speaking it out loud. Spelling is the spell you put into the world, use it wisely. Prayer as well, it’s conversation between you and your higher self, God, Guides, Angels, or just a sacred moment to yourself. Whatever it is to you-it is sacred, and it is powerful.
I also like use affirmations before bed, again more so in a feeling state because it goes into theta and integrates. The cool thing about first thing when you wake up and right before bed is that you are natural in a theta state, so optimize that if you feel called too. When working with a hypnotherapist they may suggest using your customized affirmations first thing in the morning or right before bed for that exact reason.
Ok, seems to be enough on this topic for now. You’ve got this and I’ve got you when you need me. You know where to find me. Until next time, many many blessings!!
Until next time.
